Planinarenje

Explore the canyon by hiking and get to know the mountains which protect the Jerma River. Hiking is one of the best activities in nature which can improve the general state of your body.

You will need basic equipment (hiking shoes/boots, a backpack, long pants and layered clothing), water and healthy snacks or a lunch packet, if a more demanding tour is in question, as well as good physical and mental states. Nature in this area provides perfect conditions for hiking and spending time in nature.

The Adventure Network is inviting you to strengthen your spirit and push your own limits on trails to the peaks: Bežanište (Greben Planina), Panica (Vlaška Planina), Ruj, Asenovo kale or to the lookout points which overlook the canyon and the surrounding villages.

GREBEN PLANINA

Greben Planina (The Greben Mountain) is famous for being the most challenging mountain in this area. The Kraška mountain stretches for about 12km, from the Ruj mountain in the southeast to Vlaška Planina, and they make up the Odorovo gorge, in the northwest. The most attractive part of the rocky Greben is the narrowest part of the trail called “Nož (the Knife)”, and which further leads to the highest peak of this mountain – Bežanište (1338m above sea level). In order to reach the ridge or the peak of the mountain, there are several access paths of various difficulties and complexity.

Total trail length from Odron: approximately 21 km

Total hiking duration from Odron: approximately 8 hours

PLANINA RUJ

Ruj is a “cross-border” mountain which spans across two countries – in Serbia and Bulgaria and it hides rare natural beauties. An attractive climbing trail to the top with the same name (1706 m above sea level) came to life owing to the mountaineering action of the “Traditional International Climbing on Ruj”, which is being held since 2010 every third weekend in June. In that period, Ruj is the main meeting place for climbers from both countries.
